Shravan - my most favorite month of the Hindu calendar year... for its green richness... for its flora and fauna... for its light drizzles... for the artistic inclination... for the lovely expression it finds in songs, arts and culture... and overall for being in tune with the Nature...
Posting some snaps of the festivals held during this month.
Ravivaar Puja:
On the Sundays of Shravan month, most homes in Goa/Maharashtra belt worship the Sun God, called as "Shravani ravivaar puja". The Sun God is invoked by offering Supari, varied green leaves, Durva, Bel patra, colorful and fragrant flowers which are especially available during this time of the year. These are all spread out in a thali and worshipped. I love making the Rangoli patterns and the overall setting and look forward to this occasion every Sunday during the month. Also, a special sweet dish is prepared, mostly "Patoli" prepared from rice flour, coconut and jaggery made over the aromatic turmeric leaves and steamed. Most of us eagerly await the dish during this time of the year. Other sweet dishes such as Kheer, Poli also can be offered though... The Visarjan of the puja happens sometime later in the evening once the Sun sets... Posting one such pujan at our home here...

Nag Panchami:
Naag devta or the Snake God is worshipped on this day with much ardour and fanfare. Typically, in households, a small effigy of Naga is made from rice flour or mud and ceremoniously worshipped with flowers and other religious artifacts... Milk, lahya (rice flakes) and a ceremonial lunch along with prasad(again mostly Patolis are offered to it. The Nag Visarjan happens on the same day later in the evening.
